Transience by Turmoil

A fly, rendered large and in remarkable detail, fills this painting. Its bristled body and wings are worked in cool blue-grays and wrapped in baroque scrollwork, set against a dripping field of chartreuse and teal scattered with medallions in lavender, coral, and blue.
Flies live short, restless lives, and the title leans into that impermanence. Here, though, a creature most people swat away is given the attention and ornament of a portrait.
