Original Painting
River King
Acrylic on reclaimed materialOriginal soldBy Zach Maatman
A salmon with a hooked jaw stretches the full length of this wide painting, its body built from tumbling acanthus leaves and silver scrolls. Behind it, concentric circles and patterned medallions in red, gold, and blue glow against a dark, weathered ground.
The hooked jaw marks a fish in its spawning run, and the title nods to the king salmon that push up Michigan rivers each fall, one of the state’s most striking annual journeys.
