The Crayfish

A crayfish, painted nearly four feet across on reclaimed material, reaches forward with oversized claws. Its body is a study in teal and seafoam acanthus ornament, layered over a sunlit yellow ground with a bold blue geometric ring and splashes of orange.

Crayfish are a familiar sight in Michigan’s creeks, lakes, and streams, easy to overlook under a rock. Scaled up and ornamented, this one becomes a centerpiece of the gallery’s Great Lakes wildlife.
